Over at Electric Relaxation they reminisce over hitting up Play De Record on Yonge Street for mixtapes. This was a pastime of mine also for many years and it bewildered me when the store was raided for selling the tapes. It wasn't like they were really trying to hide it.
Obviously now, mixtapes aren't even tapes anymore.
Over at Zoilus, Carl Wilson has an ode to the now certifiably ancient cassette.
Sure it's way more convenient that you can drag and drop to make personalized compilations now, but I do kinda miss being able to control exactly the right amount of tape hiss between songs and endlessly depressing the pause button in the(fruitless?) pursuit of making the perfect tape.
