T-Dot Film: A Winter Tale

Today, "How She Move," a film set in Toronto is widely released to movie theatres across North America. Much of the media focus on the film has dealt with how the script and the movie itself don't shy away from the fact that the film is actually set in Toronto. As many people know, the city has been often used in the past as a stand-in for another American city.

Another film that does not hide its Toronto setting and is deserving of at least equal attention is "A Winter Tale," the new feature from director Frances-Anne Solomon. Focusing on the events of 2005, often referred to as the 'year of the gun' in Toronto, this film goes beyond the headlines to dig deep into the stories that often aren't told.

I had the chance to check it out at last year's ReelWorld Film Festival and the top-notch acting, directing and story have such lingering effects, you might find yourself often revisiting it months later.

Apparently, this effect has not been isolated as "A Winter Tale" has been screening around the world to critical acclaim. The official launch of the film will be on in Toronto on January 31 at the Revue Theatre featuring a Q&A with the cast and crew. More info
