In A Heart Beat

Last night I had the chance to check out one of the 13 documentaries that will be part of the new Heart Beat series debuting tonight on Bravo! at 7pm. The series focuses on Caribbean Canadian artists and the documentary I saw featured singer Saidah Baba Talibah (pictured), who has been plying her trade in Toronto for years.

Based on what I saw, this looks like a very impressive series. This particular documentary delved into Saidah Baba Talibah's life, musical process and her family, particularly her mother, the inimitable Salome Bey. The series actually debuts with local drummer Muhtadi.

The series was conceptualized by Frances-Anne Solomon who also screened her deeply emotional film What My Mother Told Me at the Trane Lounge event.
