Rise Up

Tuning into the Mixtape Massacre on CKLN, this past weekend while they handed out their 2005 awards, I heard about the Rise Up event, organized to help raise awareness and funds for a critical situation in Northern Uganda, where children are forced to endure unimaginable atrocities.

I first heard about the GuluWalk last summer watching TV and it's good to see the efforts surrounding this issue are still continuing. The event looks solid from top to bottom with a very impressive line-up and it's good to see hip-hop in the city being associated with positive and progressive events.

It's refreshing as opposed to the recent 'controversy' over whether 50 Cent should be let into Canada, despite the fact he filmed a lot of "Get Rich Or Die Tryin'" in Toronto with no issues.

Groups involved include Mathematik, Citizen Kane and Brassmunk who as T-dot heads will know, already have a song with the same name as the event.
