More lists...

It may be near the end of January, but those 2004 year-end lists are still popping up.
Of course the grandaddy of them all, the Village Voice's Pazz & Jop has yet to surface, but today Toronto's own eye magazine published their critics' list with Toronto MC/vocalist K-OS taking away Best Album honours. This is no small feat given the absence of homegrown (read: Canadian) hip-hop albums missing from these lists in recent years.

Another category on that list was "Destined for Greatness 2005" and my pick on my ballot was Toronto vocalist Esthero who incidentally came in second behind the heavily-hyped and eye cover story M.I.A. Esthero's new heavily-anticipated album will apparently be dropping at the end of March and with ATLiens like Cee-Lo and Andre 3000 appearing on the record it looks like it will be worth the years this record has been in the making.

Random stuff.
Came across this interesting article on soccer and racism, a topic that with the downright idiotic and ignorant actions of the Spanish national coach and booing of England's black players in internationals is very timely. It's unfortunate that it shows that some things don't change as I remember watching soccer matches with bananas being thrown at one my favourite players back in the day, John Barnes. While I find the writer's tacit approval of Barcelona's wisely rejected Al Jolson-like proposal weird, there is much food for thought here.

Hip Hop Canada starts a homegrown mixtape column.

...and props to Ottawa MC DL Incognito for dropping a dope sophomore album Life's A Collection of Experiences. You can check out his latest video "Proof" and I'll post my interview with him in Exclaim! as soon as the link is up.
