This is vibes and stuff

As this blog is named after a track on A Tribe Called Quest's "Low End Theory" album, it's only right that Q-Tip kicks things off. He's currently starring in Spike Lee's new movie She Hate Me and in this interview he drops a lot of knowledge on music, films and life in general. While I generally don't get down with the whole rapper-actor thing as it only works in rare cases, Q-Tip gets a pass and his response to that very issue in this interview is quite thought-provoking. Q-Tip himself his no stranger to the game, getting me jealous back in the day because of the fleeting screen time he got with Janet Jackson in Poetic Justice.

His contention that hip-hop music needs to be more challenging now that it is firmly ensconced in the mainstream is a point that needs to be made more often and actually has me wanting to hear more from the much-rumoured ATCQ reunion apart from the just-okay "ICU (Doin' It) " track. Here's hoping.
